Re: What size torx delight?

I just pulled an old Western Digital I accept out of a box and the Torx screws wait visibly smaller than those on the Seagate drive in your image. The bespeak being that I don't know how probable it is anyone can confidently tell y'all which verbal size Torx to buy unless they happen to have the exact same bulldoze model(s) that you do.

While Torx is uncommon it's not exotic by any means. If you're able and willing to become to a store with a decent selection of paw tools so they'll probably have Torx drivers and/or scrap sets. At least that's the example hither in the U.S. Yous could merely simply bring a hard drive with yous to discover the matching size.

In a Covid obsessed London that is an impossibility.

I suppose I could ask Seagate simply normally DPR replies more apace.

Good timing, I'k in the procedure of decommissioning a few sometime barracuda drives. Mine use a T9, might be a different vintage than yours merely the screw head size is probably the same.

I plant this kit to be handy to go along in my desk-bound drawer, oasis't rounded any of the tips withal. Beats having a lot of individual tools in the drawer and trips to the garage. From Fujiwara in Japan via Amazon.

I'm skeptical and try to avert cheap online tools that tend to exist fabricated out of recycled soup cans or worse. The Torx screws used for the drives are rather snug, but a trivial perseverance worked for me. Good luck

I take a couple of former 1 TB Barracudas besides, but they use T8 screws. I 2nd your advice of buying a set.

Non that difficult to find great quality online, if one also spends an hour or so on reading skilful reviews. Sadly, the Www is totally spammed to the brim with useless sites, that all just provide a generic text and a lot of amazon chapter links. The second I come across ane of those, I'm off the site. Those are neither reviews properly and the just interest in money generation through the affiliate links. This is one of my biggest gripes on the Www atm, equally I often expect for good reviews. I wish amazon would terminate that crappola, but I guess 200 billions is not withal plenty for Bezos. That said ... I tend to stop up with good reviews. For such tools, normally on sites that deal generally with in depth handiwork reviews, fora etc. Takes time these days to find em, though, thanks to all these useless people and their links.

I ordinarily stick with brands that are well known, some I have experience with, frequently purchased via Amazon. Odd tools like this kit have a scrap of digging with an occasional return.

It'south not wrong to stick with something, that works .. that's quite sensible. For kits to bargain with electronics etc, I dearest to wait at what iFix It has to offer. They sell all sorts of kits, with all kinds of tiny tools and bits, that appear in the technical world. They're not the cheapest, but quality is good.

Suggest buying a set of "security" torx bits.  The security version has holes in the $.25 for the torx screws that take a pin sticking upwardly in the middle.  Information technology's maddening when one comes across security torx screws and the regular torx $.25 won't work.

Information technology depends how much yous don't desire to spend on other sizes you lot don't need, if you lot see what I mean.  As others accept said, a complete ready won't cost much.

I bought a set of 9 Draper Torx from Amazon (they phone call them TX - that'south the ISO standard, Torx is a trademark).  They seem adept quality.  They currently price £v.95 (https://www.amazon.co.united kingdom/Draper-28117-Precision-Screwdriver-Pieces/dp/B00DW8L1QE/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=ane&keywords=torx+screwdriver+sets+draper&qid=1598991065&sr=8-v )
